"What exactly is centralized power, and how does it effect me?"
Humanity has always been opposed to the centralization of power into a small number of hands, as well as striven towards by the worst of us. Examples of centralization are dictatorships, monopolies, communism and any other system in which the power to make decisions for large groups of people, is held by only a few.
Decentralization is when power to make decisions are in the hands of the individual. True democracy was meant to emulate this. Over time, it seems this ideal was lost.
Democracy and freedom is a constant talking point from legacy media*. It’s the supposed reason behind the United States' many invasions and support/ funding of coups in 2nd and 3rd world countries. We are seen as the most free and democratic country, with our presidential elections being held every four years, and our literal celebration of our free democracy every year on July 4th.
